January 2018

I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because you hold me in your heart, for all of you share in God’s grace with me. From Philippians 1:3-7.
This section of scripture from Philippians is captioned ‘Thanksgiving and Prayer’ in many bibles. At the time of the writing of this letter and in the culture of Paul and the Philippians, many letters began with an introduction of thanksgiving. Paul was very close with the Philippian church folks and would have considered them friends. Therefore, his greeting here conveys his sincere joy at their partnering in ministry.
Meditate on the words Paul writes in verse 3. “I thank my God every time I remember you.” When was the last time you received a letter that began, “Dear (Name), I thank my God every time I think of you.” I don’t know about you, but it’s been a while for me. Have you ever sent a text to someone that started with this sentence? Or how about a call. “Hi Mom, I thank my God every time I remember you!!” My mom would probably wonder if I was into the Christmas cheer!
I may have made it out to sound a little silly, but it wouldn’t be so bad would it? To let others know how much we love them and are grateful for their presence in our lives. It may be just what we need to hear at times also.
I want to take this last article of 2017 to say to each of you that I truly and sincerely thank God for each and every one of you. It is an honor and a privilege to share the gospel alongside of you. I believe God has begun a good work in us and if we remain faithful to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, He will help us see it to completion.
As my short hospitalization gave me time to think and pray, I was so very keenly aware of the love, prayers, support and concern going up to the Lord on my behalf. The offers of assistance and encouragement were priceless. So I say to each of you again…
I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now.

Amen.
