Annual Benefit
JONAH
Wesley
Willows invites you to their 36th Annual Benefit for The Good
Samaritan Fund on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Rock Valley College Starlight
Theatre.
The Starlight features an original musical production of
Jonah, an Old Testament Yarn. It was written, produced, and directed by
Rockford’s very own Mike Webb and Mike Mastroianni of Rock Valley College.
These talented artists have spent the last two years preparing this story for
the Starlight stage. It is musically “eclectic” with over 45 original tunes
and more than 60 actors of all ages telling the Old Testament story of Jonah
who survived the misery of being swallowed by a big fish in order to eventually
do the good deeds God intended him to do.
The afternoon begins at 1:00 pm with an Ice Cream Sundae Bar
presented by DQ Grill and Chill. Shop the Wonderland Book Fair, take a tour of
the beautiful Starlight Theatre, or bring your camera to snap pictures of your
family with the actors. The Jonah musical begins promptly at 2:00 pm.
Come early to enjoy all the pre-show activities.
Tickets are: $30/adults and $15/children under 12. To purchase
tickets or make a donation, call Keri Hennis at 815-316-1570 or e-mail to
khennis@wesleywillows.org. Tickets include all pre-show activities and the
Jonah performance.
Flag
Day – June 14, 2008
In the United
States, Flag Day is celebrated on June 14.
It commemorates the
adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened that day by resolution
of the Second Continental Congress in 1777.
In 1916, President Woodrow
Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day; in
August 1949, National Flag Day was established by an Act of Congress.
Flag Day is not an official federal holiday, thong on June 14, 1937,
Pennsylvania became the first (and only) U.S. state to celebrate Flag Day as a
state holiday.
