Adult Bible Studies, and Pastor's Notes Birthdays, Anniversaries, and Prayers |
Remember the wonderful Bible stories about Jesus being born in a manger, the angels visiting shepherds in the fields at night, John the Baptist down by the river Jordan, and all those stories we learned as kids? We are reading the Gospel of Luke and looking with a new perspective on those familiar old stories.
Did you know that Jesus was descended from King David and that his family lines from both his mother and earthly father Joseph reveal that? Did you know that Joseph and Mary had to go to Bethlehem as prophesied by Old Testament prophets? Many of the stories in Luke fulfill prophecies written hundreds of years before he was born!
Come join us Wednesday evenings or Thursday mornings for great fellowship and lively discussions that will bring the Bible to life and build you up in faith! All are welcome.
"Honor your father and mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live long and that it might go well with you in the land the Lord your God is giving you." Deuteronomy 5:16
The fifth commandment is the first commandment with a promise and the first commandment that deals with our relationship with one another. What better place to learn about how to live a life pleasing to God than within your own family.
Honoring our parents means more than simply sending a card or calling on Mother's Day or Father's Day. It means living in a way that honors your family every day. We have an opportunity to share our faith daily through our actions and interactions with those closest to us.
It has been said that you can pick your friends, but not your family. That is certainly true. God in his infinite wisdom has done that for us. He calls us by name before we are born and knows us intimately. Who better to choose for us parents and siblings that will challenge and encourage us to be better people for God?
This Mother's Day resolve to honor your mother in all that you do. Maybe your mom has gone to be with the Lord. You can still honor her and bring glory to God by living in a way that brings honor to your family name. Take some time to reflect on all the things she has done for you and all the mom "isms" that you know by heart: eat your vegetables, wear clean underwear, don't talk with your mouth full, don't slouch, clean your room and say your prayers.
Mom's, remember that what you say impacts your children for their entire lives. Be encouraging and loving to your children. You are a reflection of God's unconditional love for us.
Have a happy and blessed Mother's Day! (Mom, if you are reading this I am doing all of the above!)
Yours in Christ, Pastor Jim
